Important Notice From Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles Regarding Issuance of Driver Education Certificates (effective immediately):

As a result of recent budget cuts, effective immediately, the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) will no longer issue hard copies of Driver Education Certificates to students who have completed the minimum requirements of the state Driver Education Program.

Driving schools will still be required to submit to the RMV the required student information and the fee for each student who has completed the state requirements through the normal procedures. The information will be added to the student’s permanent record and an electronic copy of the certificate will be maintained on file indicating that the student has completed driver's education and they will be eligible to take a road test. Most local insurance companies have access to the RMV system in order to verify a student has completed driver's education for insurance discount purposes.

Driving schools, insurance companies, and students can access the RMV’s website at www.mass.gov/rmv to inquire if a Driver Education Certificate has been issued and applied to a student record. Simply go to the On-Line Transactions section and click, Verify Your Driver's Ed Certificate. There is no fee associated with this transaction and students may print a copy of the confirmation for their records.

Please notify your students and their parents that they will not receive a hard copy of their Driver Education Certificate. Student's who relocate out-of-state and require a hard copy for proof of completion of driver's education will be issued a certificate at no cost upon request only. In order to request a hard copy of their Driver Education Certificate students should contact 617-351-9368.
