The Student Bill of Rights is a contract between the Student, the Parents and the Driving Academy. It consists of two sections, the rights of the student, and the responsibilities.

 

The Student Driver Bill of Rights

1. Each student has the right to a competent certified instructor, knowledgeable about the curriculum and  traffic safety issues.

2. Each student has the right to be taught the entire 30 hours of classroom instruction in an informative, interesting, and challenging manner.

3. Each student has the right to experience the full 6 hours of driving instruction and observation as required in the curriculum as prescribed by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

4. Each student has the right to be treated in a courteous, civil, and respectful manner.

5. Each student has the right to attend class in a clean, secure, fully equipped classroom that meets the local  fire and building codes, and the requirements of the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

6. Each student has the right to perform their in vehicle road lessons in a vehicle that is clean, safe, and fully functional.

7. Each student has the right to see the school and instructor licenses as required by Massachusetts state law.

8. Each parent has the right to observe any class session in which their child is included. (The parent should not intervene or interfere while the class is in session).

9. The parent/student should have the right to have the driver education program including both the 30 hours of classroom and 6 hours of driving and 6 hours observation as required by Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles completed within 18 weeks of the first day of class attended. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule lessons in a manner consistent with completing this requirement.  Although the Academy makes every attempt to be flexible in the scheduling of appointments they are booked on a first come first served basis.

A Code of Responsibilities for Driver Education Students

1. Each student has the responsibility to arrive prepared and on time for every class without such distractions
   as cell phones, pagers, radios, etc. that may interfere with instruction. It is requested that all such items be
   turned off while the class is in session so as to not interfere with the quality of the education to others.
        a. If the student has such items in class and they interfere the student will be requested to shut the  
           item off.
        b. Students are not allowed to use cell phones or pagers while on a driving lesson and will be asked
            prior to the start of the lesson to turn off the cell phone or pager as to not distract them from their
            task at hand.

2. Each student has the responsibility to be attentive and actively participate in every class.

3. Each parent and student has the responsibility to refrain from seeking a driver education completion
   certificate without first completing the required course work.

4. Each student has the responsibility to treat the instructor and all others in the class with courtesy and
   respect.

5. Each student has the responsibility to respect the property of the driving school.

6. Each student has the responsibility to drive safely and in accordance with all laws, regulations, and
   directions from the instructor.

7. Each parent has the responsibility to refrain from interfering with the instruction, classroom or driving,
   while the class is in session.

8. Each parent has the responsibility to take an active role in their teen's driver education by, monitoring
   all progress, communicating with the driving school and/or instructor and practicing with their student
   driver if he/she has a learner's permit.

9. Each parent and student has the responsibility to attempt to alert the owner or manager of the driving
   school with problems or complaints before contacting an outside agency.

10. Each student has the responsibility to promptly pay the driver school for the driver education class in
     accordance with the procedures in place at the school.

This statement of the Rights and Responsibilities for Driver Education students, parents, schools, and instructors is to be presented to each student/parent on enrollment in the course. The student and responsible parent, where applicable, should read and sign in the appropriate places. The school representative should also sign. The parent/student should receive a copy when they sign it.
